After a wonderful Easter weekend, I had my follow up for my PCOS. And the dr was soooo happy I have lost 11 lbs in a month! She said all my blood work was borderline for PCOS so she thinks if I continue my weight loss I might be able to stop my meteformin in September for my six month follow up when Terry and I will be able to try again. Yay!
Overall I am glad I got this wake up call now before I got pregnant and hurt myself or my future baby. Six months is a good amount of time to focus on me and the mr and all the things we want to do. Any crazy summer ideas for us to try? Post them in the comments.
After the appt I visited Terry's school. It was so cool to watch him teach. Then I reorganized his classroom with him. My favorite thing to do. Seriously! Think I could go into business as a classroom organizer/decorator? I'd watch a tv show about that. Call me DIY Network!
Terry also started Week two of free yoga. Only four more free classes to check out. He's also gonna get certified in prenatal yoga in May. He is a really nice yoga teacher. He gives you compliments and plays soothing classical music. And you get to lay on the floor and take a nap at the end which is my favorite part. Just like kindergaten.
Speaking of school, Artbreak rehearsal is tomorrow. Showcase is This Saturday at 11:00 at the Shreveport Convention Center. The kids are working hard so come out and see some art, make some art, buy some art, and hear some art. And take a break! Artbreak! That's what's cool on the wright stuff bloggity bloggity today.
"Well," said Pooh, "what I like best," and then he had to stop and think. Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn't know what it was called. ~A.A. Milne

Another day, another healthy adventure...
Today I walked my second 5k in a month. Shaved a minute and a half off my last time with the help of my walking friends. Decided to celebrate by buying some cute summer clothes. Unfortunately, I HATE trying on clothes in the store so I got home to discover they are still snug. Still trying to decide if I return them or make them goal pants. I mean, I know I'm still losing but it's kinda sad waiting. Decisions...
We also went out to Yogie and friends exotic cat sanctuary today with Lisa and Shannon. That was cool!!! The lions and tigers were sooo close. One of Terry's Godspell castmates came to yoga and invited us out. Speaking of, we got a copy of his Godspell and it is really nice. We watched that with some friends yesterday and exchanged adorable surprise Easter baskets. I made him a grilling chicken basket and he made me a picnic frog basket. Tomorrow is Easter Sunday ham. Hope the fam can come enjoy.
Also enjoyed some more PCOS reading since my followup is Monday. I read The Low GI Revolution and The Low GI Guide to PCOS. I've read that this diet is helpful for PCOS and insulin resistance. My main complaint about these books was repeating the same info in every chapter and using the first 100pgs to convince me to try the diet. Hello I bought the book. You don't have to sell me that hard. The food guide was at the very end of the book. Start there. There were also alot of technical terms and graphs that I glazed over. I did really like the testimonials from women with PCOS. It inspired me to keep up my good eating habits and exercising. I'm also working on a list of questions for my dr. Hopefully we get some good test results.

Yoga for you-ga?
This week is amazing. First Good Friday. Second I was recognized at the school board meeting for my Yale Distinguished Music Educator Award. Third Glee is back. Last but not least, Terry started his yoga class. Two days in and I'm proud of him and myself for going. He really loves his yoga and I highly recommend going to his classes. Monday Tuesday and Thursday 6:30-7:15 and Saturday 10:30-11:15 at Pak's Karate on Barksdale. He has mats and relaxing music. And best of all it's free these two weeks! That's my shameless plug.

What a week!
This week was insane. It was testing week so work was crazy. Then there were all the dr appointments for accident related stuff. Insurance said the wreck was the other guys fault...big surprise there. NOT! They were good about taking care of the car. We are getting it paid off and yesterday we bought a new 2011 saphire black Nissan Juke. It is a sexy car.
However not so good with medical payments so we had to get a lawyer. My dr wanted me to pay cash for back xrays this week so I went to velocity care. Side note I love them! Wonderful staff, quick, and caring. Six xrays later I have the most perfect spine she's ever seen but there is still some inflammation so I got a week of steroids. She was also writing a paper on PCOS so I grilled her on my meteformin and she recommended I cut my doses in half. Those pills are great but they are causing serious stomach issues. She also said I should be monitoring my blood sugar. I got a compliment on my weight loss too so I loved her instantly.
The weight loss has been going well. I'm walking everyday with friends and we did a 5K last weekend in 53 minutes. We want to beat that at our next 5K next weekend. I've also been dancing alot more in my classes. I have so much more energy now. So I'm pretty excited. It's been one month on my meds. 5 more months till Terry and I can try to get pregnant again. I know this post was all over the place but that's how I've felt all week.

PCOS Review #2
My second PCOS book was A Patient's Guide to PCOS by Walter Futterweit. Overall, way more doctory-big word-detail stuff going on for me. It was a complete guide meaning there were many chapters that didn't relate to me. It was very explanatory which was nice since my doctor did a terrible job of that. Not even a pamphlet lady? However, digging through all of the symptoms that didn't apply to me got me feeling kinda down. And the last chapter was about depression. I understood that completely. Since I'm talking about symptoms and my friends are all asking me about what's going on why don't I share. Disclaimer: Remember every case of PCOS is different.
My symptoms include:
-Insulin Resistance that could lead to Type 2 diabetes or gestational diabetes when I get pregnant
-Weight gain particularly in my middle section
-Acne (man I was glad to find that out. Wish someone figured it out before I tried Accutane. Ouch!)
-Here's MY embarrassing one: excess hair especially in the facial region.
-The biggie that helped me figure out what I had: no period...seriously I haven't had one since December.
Still waiting on the ultrasound to figure out if I actually have the polycystic part of PCOS. I have a follow up appt on the 25th and I am arming myself with lots of questions. So there's my sharing. 3 more books to review before my appt. Wish me luck!

PCOS book review #1
My recent PCOS diagnosis left me needing some research. So I took my amazing new Nook to Barnes and Noble to hunt down some reading materials. Before I talk about the book I have to brag on the Nook. LOVE IT!!! It is cute, lightweight, easy to use. The list goes on and on. B&N has a huge selection of well priced books and u can read for free in store. I got the black and white 3g version instead of the Nook color so price was nice. My only real complaint is that the web browsing is slow and impractical but the store app is easy so you never really need to use the web page. Anyway, I don't get the science of how it works but I LOVE my personal librarian. Most importantly, I was able to search for PCOS books quickly, bought 4, and saved $20 vs in store purchase. There were only two books I found in store that weren't on the nook so not bad.
My first book was The Insulin Resistance Diet by Cheryle Hart and Mary Kay Grossman. It was a short book only 152 pages. It had alot of explanation in easy to understand terms. The link and balance strategy is the main idea and it seems simple to follow. There were lots of food examples and real world applications. My favorite parts were the personal stories from women dealing with insulin resistance. By the end of the book, I felt hopeful that link and balance could be a successful way to manage my insulin resistance.
The basic idea is to pair carbs with proteins and to eat every two to five hours. It was explained in much more detail though and at the end there is a quiz to see if you understand the concepts or if you need another read. I bookmarked some of the food guide pages and tested it at home and at Cheddars, Olive Garden, and IHOP. I felt full at each meal and quickly found foods that fit the link and balance. They really emphasized the fact that insulin resistance is a life long issue that if not corrected can lead to diabetes or heart disease. They also emphasized that mistakes will be made, desserts will be eaten (i really liked the Three Bites of Bliss idea) but as long as you work hard to make better food choices you will be rewarded
with a healthier longer life. Overall, quick simple read with simple encouraging steps. I'll keep you posted on results. One book down, three to go.

Definitely not a funny April Fools Day
Disclaimer: I am TERRIBLE at remembering important dates. That's one reason my anniversaries are all close to holidays. Hubs and I started dating six years ago today. I only remember because it's the day after April Fools. We were engaged on Valentines Day and we were married two days after Christmas. I can only pray my future babies will be born close to a holiday. However, this April Fools Day will not be soon forgotten.
Yesterday, Hubs, Pops, and brothers girlfriend were out and about. Went to the vet, lunch at cheddars with a bestie (LOVES me some Cheddar's), went to the mall, dinner at Olive Garden. Yes we have an eating-out problem. I was on my way home for the daily walk I promise! But life decided we needed an April Fools.
Hubs was driving home when a guy turns in front of us and we t-bone him. Chaos follows. Airbags deploy, seatbelts work their magic, and everyone leaves our smoking destroyed former car. Hubs calls 911 and help soon arrives. Hubs and pops go to er in an ambulance. I stay for the tow truck. Thank you to the besties for coming to my rescue to take me to the er. We all get checked out and nothing serious. This is one of many "Thank God's."
I can't believe no one got more than bruises and whiplash. The guy admitted running a red light but he was laughing about it and never asked if anyone else was ok. So glad it's an April Fools joke to you buddy. All I can say is my mom was definitely watching out for us and the car can be replaced. On the plus side, 5 hours in the er gives alot of time to read and I just bought some new books. Next bloggity as I recuperate on the couch: PCOS book reviews!
